Conical Chipping Head
High Recovery Solid Head
Innovative cant control features coupled with the Ridge XL knife system yield excellent board finish and chip quality. High knife counts, split and single knife configurations, and large array of cut diameters available, ensuring Key Knife has a custom solution for your mill's unique operating parameters.
Advantages
Improved Recovery and Surface Finish
- Increased log control and stability reduces problematic surging.
- Smooth cutting action in a large depth of cut.
- Increased head inertia enables head to easily cut through swelled butts.
- Fiber pull and knot tear significantly reduced due to optimal cant control and knife stability.
Improved Chip Quality
- Knife ridge consistently formulates a uniform chip and provides a smooth transition to the counterknife.
- Open and unobstructed chip channel significantly improves chip flow, ensuring the highest level of chip quality is achieved.
Increased Operating Efficiency and Safety
- Quick and easy knife changes.
- Long lasting Ridge XL knife can be resharpened.
- Minimal maintenance achieved through fixed knife positioning and use of Ridge XL Knife.
Features
Expanded Faceplate/Limiting Surface
Provides superior cant control, minimizing surging and reducing step cutting on entry.
Smooth & Open Chip Channel
Improves chip quality by providing chips an unobstructed path to exit the system.
Fixed Knives
Knives are fixed to ensure a repeatable cut, and to reduce maintenance.
Ridge Knife XL
The knife is indexible and disposable, eliminating the need for grinding and babbitting. The innovative ridge design eliminates problematic packing, protects the counter knife from wear, and improves chip quality by providing chips a smooth transition from knife tip to counterknife.
Five Point Knife Clamping
The innovative design of the Ridge XL Knife, Clamp, and Counterknife system produces 5 point knife clamping. 5 point knife clamping significantly improves knife stability, for a precise and repeatable cut.
Extra Options
Pre-Cutting Saw
The pre-cutting saw provides a sawn finish with little to no knot pull out or fiber pull for a superior finish. Key Knife uses a ring saw configuration to keep weight down, as well as cost. The saw is universal for both right and left chipping heads.
Post-Cutting Saw
The post cutting saw follows the finishing knife to clean up the cut for a sawn finish. Because the entire width of the saw face is not used (approximately .015”) less sawdust is produced, and recovery is maximized. Key Knife uses a ring saw configuration to keep weight down, as well as cost. The saw is universal for both right and left chipping heads.
